Ms. Mary's Monday Review

March is the month for National Pi Day, so it's fortunate that we got a new picture book that celebrates pie as the background story.  Many people ate pizza and pie on March 14, but those pies were not as important as the pies discussed in our book.  Pies from Nowhere by Dee Romito was published in November, and is sure to be a great resource for teaching children about the behind the scenes work that helped the Civil Rights Movement succeed.  Ladies cooked delicious food, including pies, to feed the people who carried out the Montgomery Bus Boycott.  Some of the food was sold to raise money, as well, to help fund the boycott.
