Summer Reading Book Review - Ivey P.

Book Title: Seven Wonders: The Colossus Rises



Author: Peter Lerangis
What was the story about? There are 4 characters: Jack, Marco, Aly and Cass. Marco falls in a volcano that is really a immortality water park and Cass almost gets eaten by a griffin.

Did you like the book?  I liked it because A) it has words and B) it's ancient mythology in the modern world.

Summer Reading Book Review - Elizabeth M.

Book Title: Club CSI: The Case of the Mystery Meatloaf


Author: David Lewman
What was the story about? It was about 3 friends who decide to start a club called Club CSI after a new recipe for meatless meatloaf makes some students at their school sick. They have 3 main suspects, all of whose names get cleared. The perp is probably the person you'd least expect!

Did you like the book?  I liked the book because it's about mystery meatloaf! It is also funny and sometimes throws curve balls at the main characters.

What was the story about? It was about Dump Trucks. They carry and dump. They carry heavy loads. They are strong. The driver sits in cabs to protect them from big stones. The have big tires, bigger than a person. They carry rocks and dirt.

Did you like the book? Yes, because the possible dirt on the driver's face would be funny.

Book Title: Out of My Mind

Author: Sharon M. Draper
What was the story about? Melody, the 11 year old main character, has cerebral palsy and can't talk, move her legs and can barely move other parts of her body. Even though she has cerebral palsy, Melody has an amazing memory and is super smart. As she shows others her capability, they may just not be ready. 

Did you like the book? I loved the book because it made me look at people a different way. A good way, but a different way.

What was the story about? Thomas Alva Edison was the first inventor to make a light bulb. He also invented a voice recorder that plays your voice back.

What was the story about? Dragon and a cat meet. It as stuck in the snow. Dragon got it out by scooping the show.

Curious George: Race Day is a Level 1 easy reader that helps promote fitness with your younger children.  We have a few newly arrived easy reader books in this series, like this one, but we also have many of the old classic books by H. A. Rey about George, the curious little monkey.  Several nonfiction Curious George books are available here, too, that teach about Science themes.

Ms. Mary's Monday Review

Grace Goes to Washington by Kelly DiPucchio is a great book to help children start understanding our American government.  Grace is the president of her school's student council, and during a field trip to Washington, she realizes how her school has three branches of government much like our country.  Her student council learns an important lesson on selflessness when they have an election to decide how to spend money.

Ms. Mary's Monday Review

If you love Goosebumps books by R. L. Stine, come see what we got in recently!  Some of our books were very loved (ragged), and we have replacement copies for some of them. Reading A Night in Terror Tower should have you ready for Halloween.  This book was used as a basis for a two-part episode of the old Goosebumps television series, and a board game was based on it.  A sequel or two also came along in the Give Yourself Goosebumps book series.  At one time, this book was listed by Publishers Weekly as one of the 300 best-selling books for children ever published, with over 1,300,000 copies sold.
